It is not very colorful but is appealing to children because it is very simple to recognize each part of the website and which subject they want to use. Each game is very visually appealing and are very interactive. The website has a lot to offer for children. Summary of game:The idea of the game is to type the words shown by the picture next to them as fast as you can. It works on spelling as well as typing skills. It is a race that is shown by an animation at the top of a swimming pool. The children get to choose their favorite fast food item to race against the rest of the fast foods to see who the winner will be. The more the child gets right, the more their food pulls in the lead. Evaluation:This game is good for children in the intermediate level because it helps them not only spell words that are tricky, but also makes them work on their typing skills. This game is fun as well giving them a challenge but a sense of competition as well. The words are tough enough for this age level but not too hard for them to type and understand. 1. Color-The color on the page is very simple and not very bright. The color on the game itself is just very realistic, which is good for this age level because it is not too young and can be seen well from any distance. 2. Repetition-Repetition not really used in this game. The website offers some repetition in the way the game categories are presented, but the rest is not very repetitive. 3. Talking Text –There is no talking in the game, just music in the background to keep the children entertained while playing the game. 4. Visual Cues –There are pictures next to the words that need to be spelled in the game in order to know which word to spell. 5. Mistakes –If you make a mistake you just have to try again and you fall behind in the race and might not win if you make too many mistakes. 6. Rating –N/A 7. Highlighted Cues –There aren’t too many highlighted cues, some are seen on the page where u can select the categories and during the game the picture of the word is there. 8. It is split up by subjects. Language arts for instance has its own list of games that you can go to. They take you to external sites where the game is presented. The website is not too kid friendly but it is definitely appealing to children. Summary of game: This game is a hunt for the Ramses at the end. At the beginning it has a little story to start the adventure so that the children feel like it is a real game. The children then have to match up the prefix to the rest of the word in order to open more doors and move closer to the Ramses. Evaluation: This game is good for children in the intermediate level because it helps them recognize the prefixes as well as having them feel like there is a reward at the end. They hav to get the answers right in order to move on, and you can select what grade level to play at so the words are appropriate. 1. Color- The color changes at every point that the children pass. The first room was dark and gloomy but the next was bright and green. It uses all colors and is very good for the theme of the game. 2. Repetition- Repetition not really used in this game. You have to always match up a prefix with an ending in the same way but it is not really a repetition type of game. 3. Summary of Site:
This site offers games for both the primary and the intermediate level. It not only has language arts games but also all of the other major subjects that students take. You can also select a specific grade level to focus on and just play games for that level. Or you can pick games by subject. The site has a lot of games that have aliens and different creatures in them and the colors are very deep and are mor ein the blues and greens and purples. Most of the games are free but you can also suscribe to the site in order to get all the games. Summary of game:The concept of the game is to find the nouns, adjectives, verbs, and other parts of speech that you are asked to find. The children must click on each alien that holds the certain word asked of them. For instance if they are asked to find a noun they must only click on the aliens that are holding a noun. They recieve points and move up levels each time they get five right. Evaluation: This website is good for this grade level because you can select any grade you want and the appropriate words will be given. For example for this level harder parts of speech such as prepositions, helping verbs, and synonyms are presented. 1. Color-
The colors in the game are purple, green, and blue which are all part of the cool color scheme. They are not very bright but they go along with the space and alien theme of the website.
2. Repetition- Repetition is used in the game because some of the words appear twice and are repeated back when selected. 3.Talking Text–
When the children select the correct word that goes along with part of sppech given, the space lady repeats back the word so the children can recognize it and read the word while hearing it being said. 4. Visual Cues – The aliens provide visual cues because they hold up the words that need to be selected. There is not many other visual cues however. 5. Mistakes – When the child selects the wrong word, the alien selected slouches down and sticks its tongue out along with a buzzer that is sounded. The children now know that they got it wrong and are given another chance. 6. Rating – N/A 7. Highlighted Cues – The buttons on the side and on all the games that select the grade level and type of game being played are all in green where the background and other colors are purple and blue. 8.
